This business is very hard if you don't ask for referrals, but relatively easy when you do. They may not happen immediately, but as you say... people know people and so eventually conversation will come up.

If you do a spectacular job with the project, it'll come up even more because the homeowners will continuously get complimented on it -- and who do they have to thank for it?

That's right... You...

Leave them some extra business cards to give out.

Hello,
My husband and I just rented a new apartment in Brooklyn, NY and it has a small garden. I was thinking maybe it could be a great place for a landscape design student to practice their skills or build up their portfolio but I don't know where to ask in a forum. I can pay for the price of the plants needed and of other materials but not very much more. I could spend just a couple hundred dollars. ...I am interested in seeing different ideas of what could be done.

My questions are:
-Do you think it is offensive to even ask for essentialy "pro bono" landscape design from a student even if it can serve as a portfolio builder and help build name and reputation?
-If it is not, then where would be good places to ask? I thought of looking up landscape design schools in my area (Columbia University offers a MS in landscape design) or posting on craig's list. Anywhere else?

Many thanks for your advice,
T

Interesting. Are there any prerequisites? I am not a Landscape Business Owner, but I am starting up a business and I am currently working on my marketing material, to include flyers. The business is a laundry pick-up/drop-off service. It is similar to services provided to college students in dorms. However, I will be providing this service to single military service members living in bachelor's quarters aboard military bases.

Hello,

I was just reading through your posting and i've got to say i've had a similar experience recently buying a dell. I settled on the 640m and i was lucky enough to have a friend give me a special discount link. If i didn't have that i would have spent an additional $200 at least. Weird Pricing strategies... i agree! Talk soon
